Citrus Smoothie

Serves 4

This smoothie is refreshing and really good for you! Try it after a workout, or a morning run. Great as a snack in a hot summer afternoon!

6 medium size clementines

4 medium size mandarins (yes, there are different from clementines)

4 medium oranges

1 big size grapefruit

2 medium limes

2 medium lemons

1 big pomelo

½ cup of either plain yogurt or vanilla flavored

Your choice of:  1 ½ cup of almond milk, soy milk, lactose free or low fat milk

Crushed Ice

Peel all the fruits and get all seeds out, cut in wedges and add to blender. Add the milk of your choice and yogurt, blend for a few seconds. Add crushed ice and blend in highest setting until smooth. Serve.

This citrus smoothie will give your body a great amount of: Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium, Beta Carotene, Bioflavonoids, Pectin, Vitamin A and Potassium. It will boost your immune system levels, aid in digestion and protect from kidney stones. Citrus fruits are basically acidic which helps to balance PH.

Add more fruits and vegetables to your daily diet. Smoothies are a great and delicious way to improve your diet, recipes like this one are also very good for children (and some adults) that are not too keen in certain fruits and vegetables. You can disguise flavors by adding vanilla, almonds, cinnamon or honey and still have a healthy and nutritious beverage. The more fruits and vegetables we eat the better we will feel and look.
