Valentine’s Day fun, simple, romantic suggestions
We are getting closer to February and with that Valentine’s Day! A tradition originated through a mix of both Christian and Roman cultures. The truth behind the legends is foggy and diluted, the stories all appeal to a sympathetic, heroic and–most importantly–romantic figure. This figure has been portrayed as a Martyr through the Christianism and mix of Roman tales, therefore the origins are a mix of reality and legend, not too easy to decipher.
We celebrate the festivity on February 14th and even the origins of the date are also murky. Some tales suggest the celebration is in February to commemorate the birth or death of the saint and others to Christianized a pagan festivity of Roman origins. But, all things considered, towards the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day. However, it was not until much later, that the day became definitively associated with love.
Valentine’s Day today
Today an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (Source: Greeting Card Association). Therefore, is safe to say, our Valentine’s Day is one filled with romance, flowers, candy and more. In light of this beloved tradition and for all those in love, here are a few ideas to get you and your loved one in the mood of the celebration! Accordingly, next week, we will get together some perfect gifts to give him to make your day and date unforgettable!
Ideas to celebrate love
Dinner for two – made by the two of you
Prepare your place with candles, decorations and set your table with your best china and flatware. Add, of course, some background music, instrumental or romantic. Decide on the menu, something special but not so complicated (although it should be fun to make) get the recipe, and all the ingredients. Buy a dessert and wine. Set aside a couple of hours of cooking (plan ahead) and enjoy the simple pleasure of camaraderie and friendship while making something together! Test the abilities of the chef! Do not forget to give praise for the efforts!
Movie for two
Along with the dinner for two – dinner and movie are even better and both of your pockets will not suffer! Decide on a movie for after dinner and enjoy the rest of your wine while watching it. Set time to talk and re-discover each other. The fast pace of life takes romance and friendship out of our lives faster than the speed of light! Bring it back!
The old idea of the getaway
Give a little twist to this overly used idea and instead of getting the classic bed and breakfast reservations for the weekend of the celebration (this year it falls on a Tuesday) and with a little planning ahead check for an all day SPA and book a day or two with all the specials. Do facials, massages, pedicure, etc. This could be a memorable day – date celebration. Of course, don't forget the candlelight dinner for two!
Reserve the "in" Restaurant and make it a big night
Make reservations ahead as these places do get booked rather quickly and ahead of time but the “in” and most popular place of the moment could be ideal for a romantic dinner. If you both work, make it “happy hour” drinks and later dinner. This is the night where you both are the most important ones!
