Costa del Sol, Malaga to Marbella - Spain
Beautiful, friendly and sunny Spain
Known to many Europeans as the Riviera of Spain, Costa del Sol, Malaga to Marbella have been a touristic destination and summer playground of jet setters and movie stars for many years. Compared to La Riviera in the south of France, it has its own beauty and charms which have granted the name.
Costa del Sol
Comprising the areas of the coastline. Here you will find the cities of:
- San Pedro
- Puerto Banus
- Rincon de la Victoria
- Torres del Mar
This part of Spain is a blend of cultures-Moroccan, Roman, gypsy that can be seen in their architecture. The buildings have that influence and the decorations of stone, mosaics and cobblestone streets are a definite taste of their heritage.
A blend of history and modern times infused together. The area has been a magnet for expatriates. Many retirees and rich and famous have a second home here and summers are full of festivities, activities, and concerts, where you can see a celebrity or two walking around the harbor (Puerto Banus) or downtown Marbella and its Plaza Los Naranjos.
The city is filled with shops and art galleries, restaurants- from cafes to gourmet and the beach area is second to none. Enjoy a delightful Gazpacho soup during summer while looking at passersby, down at one of their many little places (chiringuitos) nearby the Sea.
Best class Tapas Bars, Picasso Museum, and contemporary art scene. Andalusian roman and Moorish vibes give this Spanish city a distinctive feel. Plenty of museums to visit and to get a feeling of the city; the Museum of Wine, Carmen Thyssen Museum among others.
There are many monuments dating back to the Roman and Moorish times - Baroque Cathedral, Roman Theater, Gibralfaro Castle (dating back to the 10th Century). Worth a visit and you can stay overnight at the nearby hotel/Parador. Check here for more on Malaga and its history.
Luxurious marine and upscale shopping located outside of Marbella in the "La Nueva Andalucia", Puerto Banus is the playground of the rich and wealthy and it is here where you will find the Hollywood stars (Antonio Banderas is a common sight here and a Malagueno himself) the royalty from Spain, Sweden, and many others. The biggest and fancier yachts you can imagine are on display most of the time but more so during the summer time! Visit here for more on Malaga, Marbella and Puerto Banus!
