Quito, Ecuador unique beauty
Quito – Ecuador
More than a high altitude city, Quito, Ecuador offers the most fantastic views of its mountains, ruins and historical sites. Quito is settled at the foothills of the Andes. Quito, Ecuador unique beauty, offers something different to the visitor. It could be its location or the fact that its altitude provides a glimpse of a different way of life.
The capital of Ecuador is a colonial architecture built over the rubble of an ancient Inca civilization. Its center is a blend of Europe and Indian cultures from the 16th – 17th century. Quito has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it has preserved its historic center(1978). Among the places you want to visit in this picturesque capital are The monasteries of Santo Domingo and San Francisco.
When visiting Quito be sure to take the “Teleferico.” The Teleferico takes you on a ride up the mountains of Pichincha, with fantastic views of the city. You will see spectacular views of the capital. Of course, do not forget “Mitad del Mundo,” north of the city, for the imaginary line that marks the center of the world (although not the exact mark, close to where the real one should be)
The Center is the biggest and best preserved in Latin America. Here you will be able to visit: Palacio Carondelet, The Baroque style church – La Campina de Jesus and La Plaza Grande. Visit “El Alabado” Museum with an amazing collection of pre-Columbian art. Notable for the lovers of art the Contemporary Art Center and the House of Music.
Take a tour from Quito to Guayaquil aboard the “Crucero” a train that takes about four days on the coastal plane, stopping along the way in the Inns and check the volcanoes mountains.
Places to shop, eat and nightlife
There is plenty to shop at the “El Quicentro Mall” with local and international brands. There are plenty of stores and galleries with contemporary arts and designs around the neighborhoods. You will also find art craft stores, sculptures and antique shops in places like “Galeria Latina.”
In matters of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and nightclubs there are plenty to choose for the lovers of the night. Visit La Floresta and Mariscal, the neighborhoods with the nightlife.
Weather facts and do not overlook Galapagos
The climate of the city, for the most part, is mild days and colder nights, this is due to their position from the Equator, being that its altitude is twice that of Colorado, Quito does not suffer through long winters, which makes the city more enjoyable.
The other area not to be missed is the Galapagos Islands, which belong to Ecuador and are about 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. Your best bet is to travel by plane. The Galapagos island are a National Park, and as such you need to pay a fee before entering, and you will be on a guided tour. Although isolated, people are living in about five of the islands (there are nineteen in total) The ones populated are Baltra, Floreana, Isabela, San Cristobal and Santa Cruz. The biggest town with about 10,000+ people is Puerto Ayora – on Santa Cruz Island.
The cooler, dryer season is June to November; it is the best time to visit because it is the time when the colder water attracts fantastic marine life. Plan and visit during those months.
The UNESCO World Heritage have named both land and sea protected areas. The islands are volcanic rocks, barren black, white sand beaches that give way to incredible blue waters.
